Amazing Things

We are down to 18 days...holy cow! In some ways I feel like it's been forever since those first few months where I felt so very very sick, in other ways I feel shocked at how quickly we've gotten here. No matter if he's early, on time or late we will be a family of three within the month. Honestly it feels so surreal, I know that this active little guy in my belly is real but I also feel completely unable to process that he is going to be living at our house soon (and not in me).

We've been getting ready for the better part of a year now, doing little things here and there and more recently taking care of pretty big things but we are finally ready (well as ready as we can be!). Tonight we added a little flourish above his crib:

"We'll bring a child into this world, we'll say one thing everyone should hear: you were meant for amazing things," it's a lyric from one of Brett's favorite bands Sleeping at Last in their song "Umbrellas." We want to encourage our little guy, we believe that God created each one of us for a purpose. What will his be? We can't wait to find out...(and now I'm crying again!)

We can't wait to meet you little boy...

For Loss

I am a fairly sensitive person, I always have been.  I get caught up in not only my own feelings but the feelings of others.  I have a deep sadness this week in the wake of yet another tragedy that took many lives way too early.

I know that God too is weeping along with the families in Connecticut this week.  It gives me great hope for humanity when people join together to mourn with those who are experiencing loss.

Here is a video from "The Voice" this week:

Anniversary

This week I celebrate 6 years of marriage to Brett. I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful husband and such a great marriage. It's true that we have disagreements, we sometimes bicker and there are times when we have to make it work (as Tim Gunn would say). But I wouldn't change a thing.

My husband is my best friend, my supporter, my sounding board...he keeps me calm when I need it, he hugs me when I cry, he pushes me to be my best and makes me laugh when I'm cranky. He is generous, kind, funny and smart. He loves me more than I could ever explain and I love him that much too.

This is the song he played when we got engaged, and it was our first dance:

A rap about Jesus

I am a fan of the fact that we do not all of us worship God in the same way. I am also a fan of rap music. This song is raw, but I really like it's honesty. Check it out:

And Can It Be

One of my favorite hymns of all time, especially the third verse, but I'm not sure how I feel about this version...and I sort of wonder how Charles Wesley would feel. Go here, unfortunately I can't embed it:

For Good

I wish there were more time for people. I get busy with work and life and TV and so many other things that don't matter that much. I want to remember that life is about the relationships that we have and the people we get to love and that love us.

I love the people I love so deeply, and sometimes I lament that some people are in our lives only for a small period of time. I think that as we travel through life we are given people for a season. Some people stay with us our whole life, or many seasons: your family, a few close friends. Others are there only for one season: floormates at college, a professor or collegue.

Unfortunately the short periods of time do not make it any easier to let go. Though I understand that life works this way, I hate it every time it happens. At times you can see the end coming, other times it is sudden. So I just wanted to let you all know, each person who has touched my life, whether in a small way or greatly, thank you and because I knew you, I have been changed for good.
